I, Daniel Blake

 1) What is independent cinema and how is it different to Hollywood blockbusters?

Independent films are very different to Hollywood blockbusters like Black Widow. The style of ‘indie’ films is very different to Hollywood blockbusters, as the directors and producers have more creative input – it’s being made in their vision, not in the vision of studio bosses

 2) What is I, Daniel Blake about?

An award-winning independent British drama film is called I, Daniel Blake. After becoming ill, the main character, Daniel Blake, 59, who has worked as a joiner for the majority of his life in the North East of England, requires assistance from the State for the first time.

He meets Katie, a single mother, and her two small children, Dylan and Daisy. The only way Katie can get out of the one-room homeless hostel in London is if she takes a flat around three hundred miles away.

Leading a one-man campaign of compassion that will change the lives of a struggling single mother (Katie) and her two children, Daniel stands up and fights for his dignity. This movie offers a powerful political message about Britain during the austerity era of the government.

3) Who directed I, Daniel Blake and why is this important?
ken Loach

4) How was I, Daniel Blake promoted to an audience? List at least three different methods used by the film's marketing campaign and how they targeted their audience.

  • "I, Daniel Blake" was projected in many towns and on the Houses of Parliament as a form of "guerilla marketing."
  • Loach discussed the matter on BBC Question Time, lending the movie further legitimacy.
  • To garner local support, the film's premiere took place in Newcastle, the location of the story, rather than London.

5) What unusual or creative marketing methods were used to get audiences talking about the film
  • To launch a marketing campaign based on the movie, a collaboration was established with Trinity Mirror, the company that owns Daily Mirror. The Daily Mirror agreed with the film's basic theme because it has historically supported left-wing causes and the Labour Party.
  • Additionally, the movie collaborated with NomadiX Media's iProjector to produce an outdoor campaign that featured dialogue from the movie.
  • Ultimately, a video with lawmakers and members of the public endorsing the film's message was made public. To draw attention to this, the hashtag #WeAreAllDanielBlake was used.

6) What was the estimated production budget for I, Daniel Blake and how much did it make at the box office?
It made £11 million at the box office and the estimated production was around £2 million

7) How can independent films like I, Daniel Blake compete with Hollywood blockbusters like Black Widow?
They cannot compete with Hollywood blockbusters since their films are intended for different audiences and have distinct goals.

8) What is the name of the film regulator in the UK and what was the age rating for I, Daniel Blake?

The age rating was 15 and the film regulator was BBFC.

9) What aspects of the film contributed to the film's age rating?

Bad language and frightening and intense scenes.

10) Finally, considering everything you have learned about I, Daniel Blake, do you think the film was a success? Explain your answer in a well developed paragraph.

I think Daniel Blake was successful because the producers produced more than five times as much as they had anticipated. But Black Widow's earnings were lower than their projected or anticipated gains. In addition, despite being an independent production, it received better reviews than anticipated in contrast to Black Widow, which didn't fare as well because it was released during COVID-19.

statement of intent

I want to make an eye catching and convincing ad for a new line of flavoured water for GCSE media print assignment. The main goal is to appeal to an audience that is active,  health-minded, and environmentally conscious while emphasising the product's advantages and refreshing flavour.  The commercial's main objective is to present the flavour-infused water as the ideal option for people who wish to stay hydrated without sacrificing flavour by promoting it as a low-calorie, healthful substitute for sugary drinks. To appeal to customers who value sustainable and clean components, the advertisement will also highlight the product's natural constituents, such as actual fruit extracts. I will accomplish this by communicating vigour and enthusiasm through bold lettering and vivid, fresh colours. With close-ups of the components, such as fresh fruit, water droplets, and ice, the pictures will highlight the many flavours of the water while evoking a feeling of crispness and fre...
