Galaxy 'Chauffeur' advert: blog tasks

 1) What key conventions of TV advertising can you find in the Galaxy advert?

Both nostalgia and intertextuality

2) What is the key message the Galaxy advert is communicating about its chocolate? The slogan for the advert will help you with this question.

The advertisement's entire concept is around luxury and fanciness, showcasing the chocolate's richness and urging viewers to purchase it due to its great flavour.

3) Who is Audrey Hepburn and why did Galaxy select Audrey Hepburn for this advert?

British actress Audrey Hepburn was selected by Galaxy because, from a strategic standpoint, she embodies tradition, refinement, and grace.

4) What is intertextuality?

when two media texts are suggested or mentioned in one another.

5) What Audrey Hepburn films are suggested in this advert and how is this effect created (e.g. mise-en-scene - CLAMPS: costume, lighting, actors, make-up, props, setting)?

Roman Holiday: both are situated in the stunning nation of Italy, which makes them similar in that they aim to captivate and fascinate the viewer.

6) Which of Propp's character types are can be found in the advert and how do they change? (Note: just choose two or three character types that are definitely used in the advert - it does not use all seven).

At the beginning of the story, the man in the car was portrayed as the hero when he asked Audrey, the princess, to accompany him. However, as the story progresses, Audrey turns into the heroine when she puts the hat on the man's head, making him the driver so she can unwind and enjoy her chocolate in peace.

7) How does the advert's narrative (story) follow Todorov's theory of equilibrium?

Everything in the train was normal at first, but after it slammed into the fruit stand, it went into disequilibrium. As soon as the girl had a chance to unwind in her chauffeur-driven car and enjoy her chocolate in peace, the train returned to equilibrium.

8) What representation of celebrity can be found in this advert? Think about how Audrey Hepburn is presented.

The opulence of the advertisement highlights the silkiness and richness of the chocolate, and the elegant scene implies that Audrey is not just stunning but also well-known and wealthy.

 9) What representations of gender can you find in this advert?

Generally, people would assume that men have more authority than women, but this advertisement subverts that expectation by showing Audrey Hepburn as the lady with more power than everyone else.

10) How are stereotypes subverted at the end of the Galaxy advert to reflect modern social and cultural contexts?

The widespread usage of stereotypes leads people to believe that they are normalised and have an impact on society, particularly in the past. like a result, this advertisement subverts gender stereotypes by defying social norms, just like most contemporary advertisements would.
